Lieyu Township (traditional Chinese: 烈嶼鄉; simplified Chinese: 烈屿乡; pinyin: Lièyǔ Xiāng; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Lia̍t-sū-hiong), also Lesser Kinmen (traditional Chinese: 小金門; simplified Chinese: 小金门; pinyin: Xiǎo Jīnmén) is located to the west of the main island of Kinmen and immediately to the east of Xiamen. It is situated outside the mouth of mainland China's Jiulong River and inside Xiamen's harbor. The distance from mainland China at the closest point is only about 5,000 m (16,000 ft) and is located in a very strategic position.
